When you sport a 7-0 record and are two games from a perfect regular season everyone including the defending champs are gunning for you. Sunday was no different a scoreless first half led to a great defensive game for these two powerhouses. In the second half W.T.’s did just enough to keep their perfect record intact and defeat Black & White 7-0. (A) They played field position offense. (B) They limited turnovers. And (C) They let the game come to them. Black & White falls to 4-4 and that’s very dangerous for any team facing the Raiders in the first round. W.T.’s will finish off the regular season with the Aztecs a 5-3 team with a dangerous mind set. The Aztecs can play great one week and stink the joint up the next week. The Raiders will face the Cannoneers now 7-1 in another great “A” battle.

Once again the kids just off an undefeated regular season, keep their streak alive. Dynasty knocked off the Gamecocks 24-7 and Strike Zone 12-6 to improve their record to 8-0 with one game left. The game remaining for Dynasty is non-other than World One now 7-1 after an impressive 20-0 victory over O’Leary’s Lions (4-4). Dynasty has wrapped up the division title and a lose will not hurt as much as a World One lose. If Finke wins and W1 losses Sunday the division title and a 1 or 2 seed will belong to Finke. Yes, Dynasty’s ego may take a hit (24 game regular season winning streak) but they will receive a 1 or 2 seed regardless of the outcome Sunday.

Quietly the Firebirds have gone about their business this year and not many in the league outside of the Albany “C” division has taken notice. Many thought the Silver Bullets would take the title easily now that Dynasty, Strike Zone, and Redemption left to play at a higher level. Well, the Bullets fell apart this season and finished 4-4, while the Birds have taken flight and sport a 7-0 record with one game left. The one game happens to be against the 5-2 Warpigs a quality team. The Firebirds will receive a top three seed and sport the number one offense in the “C” division @ 32 points per game and the number two defense @ 10 points per game. That kind of balance can take you deep into the playoffs.

The season started with registrations in February, a mini-camp in March, a coach’s camp in April, and practice beginning in May. The end to our Empire Football League march came Saturday night with a 39-0 victory over the Watertown Red & Black in Watertown. The crowd was stunned as the Mallers put together their best game of the season at the right time bringing back the championship early Sunday morning. The celebration on the long bus ride home was filled with both happiness and relief. The player’s bodies and the coach’s minds were spent after months of hard work. The 14-2 Mallers will accept an invitation too one of many national tournament offers.
