I’m not sure how many people thought the Aztecs and Knights would be battling for a share of first place heading into week five. The Knights trying to protect a perfect record fell flat on offense losing 6-0 to the now 4-1 Café Italia Aztecs. Second place is now clogged with the Knights and Cannoneers sharing 4-1 records with the Aztecs. Only W.T.’s stands alone at 4-0 heading into week six. The fact all the teams make the playoffs gives the bottom feeders a chance to re-group without the panic feeling of trying to make the playoffs.

We waited for this game to come for five weeks and the finished product did not disappoint. Finke (4-0) and World One (3-0) looked to take control of the Schenectady division and cruise into the playoffs. Finke took major control by winning a tough battle 17-14 and taking a 1-½ game lead on World One. World One will be there at the end, but Finke showed some guts winning a game many thought they would lose.

The Big Uglies and The Ruck came into the Troy contest each undefeated. The game expected to be close and the winner would stay tied first place with the Growlers. As the Jetsons dog Astro would say “Ruck Row” as the Uglies took them apart 26-8 making a statement to the rest of Troy, that this former Schenectady team was not afraid to play with the big boys of Troy.

If you have heart problems I hope you avoided this game. The Mallers 13-11 victory over Tri-State Saturday night was a real heart stopper. The Mallers took a commanding 13-3 lead into halftime before the wheels fell off. Tri-State sacked Mallers QB Scott Lawson in the end-zone for a safety making it 13-5. Then Tri-Sate scored a TD and missed the tying two-point conversion for a Maller 13-11 lead. With 25 seconds remaining the Bulldogs attempted a 28-yard field goal. The kick was partially blocked by Jeff Turman sending the ball wide left. The mad rush to celebrate started before the game ended and the Mallers were off to their 3rd straight EFL title game.
