The defending “B” champion Warriors took the challenge of moving to the “A” division very serious and wanted to open the season with a bang. The first half was a struggle for the Warriors as the “A” rules caused many penalties and a 6-0 deficit. The second half proved to be an awakening as veteran QB Bobby Catania marched the team down field for the tie and the first O.T. of the season took place. The Aztecs started the overtime on offense and a record 4 straight sacks later the Warriors took their turn on offense scoring and winning their first ever “A” game.

The Alpha Knights and Quigley’s Ironheads have played tough games for years on CDFFL soil! Week one of the fall 2005 season turned into another battle of wills. Quigley’s Paul Prosser brought back the Ironhead name to inspire the troops. The Ironheads started in the early 90’s and took on big time opponents like Pepsi Express, Cellar Sports Bar, Theo’s Sports Bar, and My Gym Mustangs! Flash to 2005 and the team takes on the Knights a team on the verge of the title every year. Week one belonged to the Knights as they held on for a 17-13 victory, an important victory for each teams divisional title hopes. Each divisional opponent plays each other only once in the regular season and the head to head tiebreaker will be a factor. I’m sure both of these teams will be in the playoffs but division titles won’t come easy.

The Strike Zone Titans behind all-everything running back Gary Jones (Suny Albany) expect to compete for a “C” championship every year he plays. Well, I’m not sure if Jones made the game but the Bombers a playoff bubble team used great defense and timely offense to knock off the favorites 9-6 and show the South Conference they are serious contenders. Yes, we have 7 games remaining but every team plays each other once and 4 teams make the playoffs. The Bombers have a big advantage after knocking off one of the teams expected to beat them!
